TrafficSense delivers highly accurate travel time, traffic speed and incident alerts in real time by tracking anonymous cellular phones over the roads

Firmly established as a supplier of detection solutions based on wireless networks – used by cellular operators to optimize their radio frequency performance and by road operators to manage vehicle traffic – Cellint is using ITS America's Annual Meeting & Exposition in Palm Springs to launch its latest version of TrafficSense.

Providing real-time road traffic information that is accurate and comprehensive for professional road management, the new version of TrafficSense enables the monitoring of traffic in highly dense urban areas, while providing very high data quality. Achieving this has been the main limitation of other attempts and technologies.

Reliable Solution

Unlike other cellular-based technologies and as a result of Cellint's unique and patented method, TrafficSense differentiates between close-by neighboring routes, even if these are down to 20 yards apart at some points. Additionally, it addresses the needs and challenges of traffic agencies and road operators to find a reliable solution for ubiquitous traffic data collection, providing accurate and relevant data in real time for much lower cost, while maintaining the accuracy to support road management activities as well as traveler information systems.

Cellint's application allows for real-time incident detection with a delay of only a few minutes when compared with road sensors. This ensures highly accurate travel times to be delivered based on short link measurements and aggregation (250 yards in urban areas).

For the first time, it is possible to manage a full metro area and not only specific hotspot locations (as provided by sensors), including highways, arterials and major surface streets, with one system. l, Cellint, Israel

A deployment of a full metro area can be delivered in only a few months and can upgrade the capability of commuters to plan their schedule and response in real time to changes in traffic conditions.

Vital Extraction

By extracting anonymous signaling data from cellular networks, TrafficSense correlates vehicles to the road they are traveling on and detects their exact position on the road every few hundred yards. By aggregating this data for each road section, it also provides accurate and real-time local average link speeds, similar to road sensors.

Not requiring any road work or construction zones, TrafficSense can be easily deployed and activated without any need for 'right of way'. This provides DOTs and road management companies a tremendous return on investment, while increasing road efficiency and mitigating congestion.

During the past year, Cellint's systems have been deployed over thousands of miles in the USA, Europe and Middle East for satisfied customers with excellent results.

A very good example of the company's capabilities is demonstrated in Atlanta where Cellint provides traffic data for the GA400. This data is currently available for viewing on the Navigator website of Georgia DOT.

Another successful project of TrafficSense which was initiated last year in the USA was conducted by the Kansas DOT in Kansas City. It compared road traffic data generated by the TrafficSense system with the existing road sensor data of the SCOUT system. Cellint's TrafficSense was proven to be the first and only cellular-based traffic data collection system in the USA to provide accurate travel times and immediate slowdown alerts.

The company expects to launch several more TrafficSense projects for DOTs in the USA throughout 2007 and plans to deploy in several major metro areas as well.
